Is There Any Woman Who Truly Loves Her Hair?

I got my hair cut today. An expensive haircut. An expensive maintenance haircut. You know the kind--after 6 weeks go by and you start lookin' a little shaggy.

But now, even though it was a trim, I feel like I don't look like myself, and it's going to be a few more weeks before I'm used to it/like it.

I'm so jel of women who wash their hair and go. (Who are these people?!) I have every styling product and electronic implement known to man, and there are women in this world who do nothing to their hair and they look great. (Shake fists at sky!)

Well, I can't complain. At least it's not too short. That's the worst.

Giggle

I think regardless of what the cut looks like, you are still our adorable, funny Giggle!

What does your hair look like? I'm guess it's textured or wavy? My sister's hair is like that and she just got an expensive haircut as well and is pretty damn lost herself. I'm so grateful that I don't have to do anything to my hair (Please don't shake your fist at me Sad ) to make it look nice.

I hope you find a way to style your hair as you please. Didn't ask your stylist for tips or anything? Well, if all else fails consult MakeupAlley for some miracle product.

I love my hair, but I'm one of those people you seem to hate. I've never owned any hairstyling product or device. Life's too short to spend all your time infront of a mirror changing your hair!

Hope you get used to the new cut though. I bet it looks great!

Jhuck...you can't see, but I'm shaking my fists at the sky.

haha oh man... I'm definantly with you on that. My hair is naturally really wavy. I'm 20 yrs old now but when i was 16 i started straightening it. now... its worse than ever. You see, its so trained on the top half of my head that it is constantly straight... the bottom however looks like a friggin plate of spaghetti. its insane. If I find any sort of a miracle to help with mine i'll be sure to let ya know!

As long as you're shaking at the sky and not me! Smiling

Giggle, it's not our fault that we were made that way! AND, it's not like we don't have our own problems. I don't have to do anything to my hair, but I couldn't even if I wanted to. If I want to make it special it doesn't work.

I'm sure you look fabulous.

I use to have stick straight hair when I was younger (wash-n-go hair). Then I hit puberty and it went CRAZY. Now I have to flat iron it everyday . Actually its time for a haircut for me- my bangs REFUSE to do what they have been doing for the past 2 years

Sometimes I love my hair. But most of the time...no.

I only wash it every two or three days (or as needed, natch). When I do, I put it in a clip or a french twist. Then I let it grow, grow, grow and then chop it all off into a short, cute 'do.

It makes The Man happy to have a changeable girl (haha, whatever!) and makes me happy that sometimes my hair is absolutely adorable and sometimes it's just workable.

Mine is also curly/wavy and THICK. Don't have any good suggestions on the cut, though...sorry (I'd love the miracle cut as well.)

My hair is pretty unique. I was born with a curly white afro. My hair has evolved into more of a "mane" now, at least that's what my friends say! I love it, though. I do get a lot of compliments, especially from makeup artists at the mall. It's long and curly and wild, so straightening it can be a b*tch. I usually just let it go and do its own thing Smiling

I actually do like my hair, but I think some women love my hair more then I do. They are always touching and petting my hair. They say it feels like silk lol. I wish my hair was thicker though.

I'm with jhuck!
Don't own anything, and my hair routine consists of waking up, looking in the mirror and going. Can't brush it (it's a cross between wavy and curly), but get loads of compliments about it.I would like straight hair occasionally, but am too low maintenance to do anything about it. I reckon give it some time. Then it sort of falls into a style that you end up liking (or even loving!). Good luck!

yeah, i use to have FAB hair. seriously, no matter what i did it looked great, even it the morning. after each child a-little-less-fab. 3 kids later; frizzy, funky, doesn't know where to part, cowlick up in the front. shaving my head and getting a wig sounds good at times. hormones of pregnancy change hair Sad

My hair is very long, so it takes some time to wash, blow dry, and then flat iron, and I only use Fekkai products. The end result is worth it, though~

I really like my hair. Honestly.

I feel for you ... I hate my hair. My last haircut was so horrid, it took 9 months to GROW OUT enough for a trim to the length I HAD wanted it. Every style I think looks cute looks limp and drab on me. When I put my hair in a ponytail, I can literally wrap a child's ponytail holder 2-3 times around the entire circumference of it. I have medium blonde, superfine thin, stick straight (except for the cowlick at strategic locations) hair. So, my hairstyle is super simple and very non-stylish. I pull back the front section and put it up in a ponytail and TopsyTail it at the crown of my head. Curl bangs under ... done. I look like an 80's prep ... but I don't have my hair in my face ... I spend minutes on it, lol ... and there ya go. See, your hair life's GOT to be better than that!! =D

My hair is one of the most absolute shockers of all time. Everyone always tells me its the hardest to manage they've ever seen. A normal trip to the hairdressers JUST for foils takes at LEAST two hours all up, and it's not even that long. Using a state of the art straightener takes half an hour to do it, absolute minimum.
A few days ago I went and asked for brown foils, a style and trim. The lady ended up cutting it too short and telling me if she styled it any differently it would boof up even more. And now it's too short. UGH.

i recently got extensions and now my hair is super long.
For some reason i have a much easier time fixing it... It seems like the longer my hair is the less i have to do to make it look presentable- like the shorter it is the better i have to make it look... does that make any sense?

Fri, 06/22/2007 - 7:07am

Post a pic of your haircut! I'd like to see it!

I actually like my hair, but I do have to some stuff to it to make it look presentable. It has nice texture and gets wavy if I scrunch it with product and blow-dry with a diffuser. I can blow-dry it straight, use a flat iron, and have a totally different look. I got it highlighted a couple months ago, which was a huge change for me. It's growing out now, so if there's anything I don't like about my hair right now, it's my obvious roots!

Btw, if there's anyone here who lives in Virginia Beach, I found a great cheap place to get haircuts! It's the Hair Cuttery on Lynnhaven Parkway, by the Walmart. I know Hair Cuttery might not be everyone's first choice for a professional haircut, it wasn't for me, but I heard great things about it and decided to give them a try. Haircut was only $12!

I always tell my clients that the first thing they need to do is learn to love their natural hair--the colour, the texture, the cow licks, the growth patterns, the thickness or thinness. Once there, the potential for working with the hair's non-styled fall and growth patterns increases. It is possible to have the wash and go. It's about learning to love what you naturally have first.
I do pretty much all razor cuts on my clients and they love the minimal styling required post-cut. A little texture product--a taffy, a wax or a mousse--just to create a little lift and bounce, then diffuse dry and piece out or drive fast in a convertible! Love yourself Giggle! With a name like that, how can anybody not!
Kisses!

Wow, after hearing some of these hair stories, maybe my routine isn't so bad after all! We definitely need to chill out, but the fact is, hair can become an obsession! Thanks for the stories.

Fri, 06/22/2007 - 8:04am

23

I'm totally wash and go. I think I'm just lucky in the hair department, because it is long, and very naturally straight with decent thickness and maybe just a hint of a curl at the bottom (from humidity). I also never iron/set/dye/perm my hair, so it's healthy and easy to maintain. Thank god, so I can sleep in mornings!

I fought with my hair for YEARS. Flatirons, blow dryers, every kind if anti-frizz/straightening product I could find. Finally I had enough. I learned how to properly care for my curly hair, found a stylist who specializes in curls and makes me feel fabulous, and stopped fighting it.

The hardest part is learning to accept that having curly hair means my hair will probably never look the same way twice, and it's pretty unpredictable what it will look like day to day. But it's much healthier and my husband loves it, plus I don't have to spend half an hour ironing anymore!

Fri, 06/22/2007 - 10:33am

25

I LOVE my hair. And not because it always cooperates (because it doesn't), but because it's mine and I'm done fighting. I'm done straightening what is meant to be curly.

My hair is boring asian hair-straight and dark. Everyone else loves it of course, but me, no. I wish for naturally wavy hair....

Fri, 06/22/2007 - 3:19pm

27

I really like my hair. Yes, the next day after a cut, i don't know how and what to do with my hair, but when I used to it, it most easy. the key is used good products (not necessary expensive), products that help to growth your hair and give shine. I wash blow dry my hair, also i use an iron because i like flat hair. So is necessary to care about your hair, and it helps in first impressions.

African American hair!!! Now that is a challenge! I shiver everytime I try to put my hair in a cute style...and I just end up being fustrated. Infact, I want to cut my hair, but I'm scared that the cut will end up making me look like a man!

Fri, 06/22/2007 - 7:54pm

29

My hair is light reddish brown, kind of wavy, and has a mind of its own. Until I was 23 I hated it and all my attempts at curling, or straightening, or coloring all ended up with my hair rebelling and turning orange, or into an enormous ball of frizz.

I made peace with it last year, and really began to learn to enjoy the natural color and texture. Then my husband said he really liked it when I was blonde, so I bleached it and voila! It's orange and frizzy again. ARG!

i'm one of those ppl who wash their hair and look fabulous... I even don't have to comb it! It's long and somwhat curly at the bottum. Most of my friends are extremely jealous of my hair but my hair is just as stubborn as I am. If it wants to go that way it will never ever go this way...

I used to think that an expensive haircut was pointless, but after a little thought, it is going to be a cut that will be on your head for at least a couple of months. Unlike buying a pricey article of clothing that you wear once or twice but spend most of its time in the closet, at least with hair it's a part if you day nd night. So it should definitely be worth your money to get a cut that you like and want.

I wash and go. Don't even own a hairdryer. I don't have patience to be styling nothing, and would rather have more time to go hike or make art.

I love my hair and I do my own hair cutting. I don't look like a celeb and don't want to. Too much work, too much time. I'm me and if you don't like it, don't look. Smiling

(I should mention I don't have a lot of extra money; if I did, I'd get professional haircuts and a little hair coloring, but I'm ok with the way things are) Smiling

After a couple of mortifying and devastating experiences at two different salons, I stopped going all together. I now cut and color and style my own hair, have been doing that for years and have gotten very good at it. So it's easy for me to create a "wash and go style" and maintain it - it saves me so much time and money.
These days, I cringe when anybody else touches my hair.

my hair is just uneven after i wash it. so i have to do the whole shabang. wash. blow dry. straighten. style. =/ its such a hassle. i wish i had my soft 7 year old hair again!

I don't know what I would do withouth: my deep conditioner, curling gel, shining spray, straighning balm, hair spray, heat-protection spritz, brush, comb, curlers, flat & curling iron and of course my trustworthy hairdresser!

hahaha well im pretty good with my hair. once i have it showered, its great and all i need to do is comb and go, but if i dont take a shower, oil sets within A DAY and its just ICK.
i REALLY jealous of those who not only dont have to do anything with their hair, but also dont have to take a shower in the morning evryday and just wake up with bed head, go, and still look pretty good.

ok so i love my hair immediately after i have spent an hour drying it w/ a huge round brush, then going back over it with a straightening iron - it looks fab...

however i walk outside in the florida humidity and within 5 minutes my hair is a wavy frizzy MESS that looks HORRIBLe... and there is NOTHING i can do about it. i've tried everything. its to the point where if my friends are going somewhere outside, i almost don't want to go! (and sometimes i won't!)

i have tried every product under the sun. the one i have found so far that works the "best" is Desert Sand by profound beauty (supposedly transforms your hair into the climate of the desert, i.e. no humidity) however it doesn't work that well for me in FL if i am going to be outside for a prolonged period - but it does allow me to get from my parking garage to my office w/o the big wavy mess.

sigh longing for that wash & go hair!

I like my hair, I can't say I love it. I have thin hair, so I keep it short. It grows too quickly but not thick.
I used to be a natural redhead, but I started to bleach it out. I have been blonde, platinum, red and spicy-gold over the last 4-5 years. Just depends on if I have the cash to see my stylist (platinum) or if I am broke and have to use a homekit (all the other colours)

After 39 years I've come to terms with my hair. This spring I did the extreme makeover and got it all cut off. My hair has a lot of body. It was one of the most liberating things I've ever done. I might grow it back out later, but for now, short is AWESOME! Good luck with your hair. May you make it what you want it to be.

pinkjen253: what type of hair extensions did you get? I'm so fascinated with them!! I was in the process of growing out my hair when i got bored and chopped it, now I miss it so much! Besides not having much extra $$ I've always heard that extensions cause you hair to break where they attach them, how is your hair holding up? You'll have to give us the down low on your experience!

I agree with bambileagal..this Fl humidity is lousy!!
after years of long ponyail hair.
i chopped it all off in jan. had it dyed from ashy-grey brown, to a nice mocha brown(yay no dark roots),and had it layered sorta medium-short.
it's taken me 4 months to finally get the hang of keeping it straight and looking like what my stylist did. usually i wash it the night before, dry, straighten and then spray the hell out of it.
when i wake up-its NICE and flat,straight.
that will usually work for about 3 days..but i can feel the hairs trying to kink up as soon as i walk outside!
my stylist swears she uses bio-silk shine on spray just before she irons it, and thats what keeps it straight and humidity proof..
*sigh*.i guess im going to finally break down and by 2-3 cans of the stuff and stock up..nothing else works as good for me..

I have naturally curly hair and it is thick. I also got lucky that it starightens easy and it is soft. I really like my hair. I always cut it, do all these diffrent styles since it grows fast. My hubby likes long hair but does not mind when I cut it off because in six months it is back.
I am one of those who washes her hair every two or three days also. I am a blonde so I do not tend to look like I have greasy hair. I cannot say Ihave a great hair day all the time though..Smiling)!!! I just got lucky and do not have many issues with my hair.

I love my hair color but its a lot of maintenance. I could use more body my hair is flat I cant blow it out like the salons do

Wed, 06/27/2007 - 7:04am

48

When my hair is straight it looks pretty good but my curls are CRAZY, theyre not even tight ringlets, theyre regular curls but they get so tangled it hurts to brush or comb them out :/ Otherwise I love my hair, I've changed the color before only to realize how much I like the natural brown and the highlights that come in the summer.

Wed, 06/27/2007 - 7:54am

49

I have that weird kinda curly, kinda wavy super thick hair, I definately have to do a LOT to get it to look good. I just got it cut really short, which I know looks cute, but I really miss my long hair! I always wanted wash and go hair too, because I'm really low maintenance outside of my hair Sad
